Safety beveler and blades
The safety beveler will become your best friend. It makes skiving away excess bulk and materials super easy.
Folding hammer
It gets its name from the process of folding toplines, but we also like to use it to smooth out stiffeners when they are too hot to touch by hand and hammering on soles and heel tips.
Awl
An awl is great for pricking through patterns and it's also helpful for piercing small holes through leather.
Rubber Crepe
Rubber crepe is great for cleaning excess glue off the finished shoes.
Water + Solvent Based Glue
The water-based glue is used for 90% of the shoemaking process whilst the solvent-based glue is primarily used for attaching the soles.
Craft Knife
A universal must have for all crafts. BE CAREFUL breaking off the blades - made sure you snap them off away from you.
Heavy Duty Scissors
You can use most scissors to cut through leather or fabric but this pair are particularly great for shoemaking and cutting through soling materials.
Masking Tape
Mostly used for the patternmaking stages but also useful for lasting.
Spatula
For applying the glues.
Sandpaper File
Used for smoothing out the edges of soles or roughing up the surface of smooth soling ready for glueing.
Measuring Tape
We love this mini tape measure as it's the perfect size for shoemaking.

What our students say
Read reviews from our amazing community of shoemakers
I never realised home shoemaking was a thing until I discovered I Can Make Shoes! I started with a few pairs of sandals before moving onto closed shoes and now I feel like I can make all the shoes of my dreamsssss 🤩
Not only do my big feet have the most beautiful shoes, but I also can't believe that I can make shoes!
I really can't praise this course enough. I LOVED every minute of it - it's so detailed, clear and thorough. There are so many types of shoe you learn about, but it also gives you the skills to develop your own designs and styles. As a result of ICMS I have been able to launch a shoe brand of my own - something I never imagined possible. Would give it 100/5 stars if I could.
